GE Healthcare SHOWCASES AT AIUM 2007 NEW LAPTOP-SIZE ULTRASOUND SYSTEM: HIGH-PERFORMANCE IMAGE QUALITY AT THE PATIENT BEDSIDE FOR RADIOLOGY GE’s LOGIQ i 10-pound premium system empowers clinicians with volume imaging and wireless capability for comprehensive radiology, vascular, neonatal, breast and musculoskeletal imaging NEW YORK, MARCH 15, 2007 - GE Healthcare introduced today its LOGIQ i compact ultrasound system for radiology, a 10-pound system with volume imaging, featured at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) show, March 15-18 in New York. The portability allows clinicians to use high-performance ultrasound imaging at the point of patient care, including areas with constricted space such as the intensive care unit (ICU) or between incubators in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The LOGIQ i also features the capacity to store raw ultrasound data and transmit it wirelessly to a workstation. “GE’s advanced image-optimization tools on the LOGIQ i help clinicians possess image quality and portability in an ultrasound system; they won’t have to sacrifice one for the other,” said Terri Bresenham, vice president of GE Healthcare’s Global Diagnostic Ultrasound business. “In 2,800 of our clinical exams using the LOGIQ i, 98 percent of the exams gave the necessary diagnostic information for the clinician to complete the ultrasound study, with no need to re-scan.” “Our compact innovations help clinicians perform advanced diagnostics for critical patients in the ICU and NICU, quiet environments with limited space, where it can be challenging to wheel in a 400-pound ultrasound console system,” Bresenham said. LOGIQ i features include:
“The most important aspect of the LOGIQ i is that its performance is close to that of very high-end units for diagnostic ultrasound procedures. It’s portable and has near high-end image quality in a small package, but you don’t feel like you’re compromising image quality or patient care,” said Dr. Thomas C. Winter lll, professor of radiology and director of ultrasound at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. “In the ICU, with patients so ill they can’t come to ultrasound lab, we have to bring ultrasound to the patient. You just pick up the little LOGIQ i and walk 300 yards down the hall, instead of pushing a 400-pound machine down the corridors.” “It’s a high-end machine in a compact package. It also allows us to be more flexible in providing timely services when our big machines are tied up,” Winter said. Imaging applications include: General imaging: Addressing specialized applications such as cardiovascular studies and fetal measurements, to more routine imaging of the kidney, liver or small parts. Breast imaging: High-frequency imaging and penetration needed to detect and characterize breast lesions. Vascular imaging: In the operating room, physician office or for hospital portable exams of abdominal, carotid and peripheral vascular imaging. Neonatal imaging: Fits unobtrusively in the NICU, avoiding the need to transport severely ill babies, who are extremely susceptible to changes in their environment. Raw data capabilities and volume imaging technology reduce the scan time on babies’ heads, and allow for the quick completion of challenging exams. Musculoskeletal imaging: Diagnostic imaging in ultrasound departments, sports medicine clinics, locker rooms or nursing homes for joints, muscles, tendons and the visualization of interventional procedures.
