Ultrasound Transducers and Probes

National Ultrasound carries new, refurbished, and used ultrasound transducers and ultrasound probes for sale from various brands and manufacturers. They serve as accessories to your main machine, to optimize patient exams. You need the right one for specific medical exams, and patients, and can take advantage of new technological advances. Crystal material has potentially changed the game, and you need to review if the changes fit your medical practice.

Ultrasound Probes and terminology

The terms “transducer” and “probe” are interchangeable. They both refer to an ultrasound machine accessory that uses sound waves to bounce off and use the echoes to create images of organs in a body. This applies to human and animal patients.

Every device has a piezoelectric crystal. This generates and receives signals that can be translated into imaging. Crystal technology has only seen recent upgrades to allow for higher frequencies and accuracy during examinations.

Types Of Ultrasound Probes

Adding a new type of ultrasound transducer or probe to your existing machine can help you upgrade your ultrasound system and get more out of it. The trick is knowing which is a good match for the examinations that you conduct on patients. Piezoelectric crystal arrangement, aperture (footprint), and frequency are the varying factors that determine the types of probes.

National Ultrasound carries all types, including linear, convex, micro-convex, endocavity, transvaginal, TEE, phased array, and USB ultrasound probes. We can help you find a probe or transducer to match your practice’s current ultrasound system.

Phased Array Probe

A phased array probe emits a beam that can sweep over the area. They are primarily for noninvasive applications. Multiple tiny elements comprise the beam, and computer timing can pulse them for control and accuracy. In the meantime, multiple transducers pulse, with each having a timed delay. Then the different beams can form an image.

Linear Ultrasound Probe

Linear transducers have a rectangular beam. It also carries a linear piezoelectric crystal arrangement. The linear probes can do 2D and 3D imaging, with applications including thyroid, arteria, and vascular.

Convex Ultrasound Probe

Convex probes are named as such for their curvilinear piezoelectric crystal arrangement, as well as the convex beam. It’s best for abdominal, transrectal, and transvaginal applications.

Brands Recommended For Probes

Interson Corporation has been a medical device industry leader in ultrasound imaging devices since 1989. That’s why they released the Interson SiMPLi GP-C01 USB Ultrasound Probe. This is meant for portable ultrasound machines and can be used for abdominal or OB-GYN. Implement for any point-of-care.

You can also purchase probes from Mindray, a company making its motto, “bringing healthcare within reach,” a reality. The firm is quite dedicated to providing quality care, delivered with convenience.

The Best Brands For Ultrasound Transducers

Top ultrasound manufacturers that release probes and transducers include GE Healthcare, Interson Corporation, and Mindray. Each brand has various priorities on features and imaging quality.

GE Ultrasound Transducers

We can help you meet your ultrasound needs with probes by GE Healthcare. This brand is a provider of transformational medical technologies and services that are shaping a new age of patient care. GE delivers on point-of-care to those who have trouble accessing affordable healthcare examinations.

For example, the GE 12L-RS Linear Ultrasound Transducer has a wide beam to allow for focal zone depth changes. This probe is best for smaller organs in an examination, nerve blocks, ophthalmic exams, needle guidance, and peripheral vascular applications.
